In 1967, shortly after getting my degree in Botany, the Garden Clubs of Minnesota asked me to edit a Horticulture Handbook for their use. After the success of that book I wrote and illustrated Minnesota Wildflowers of Forest, Field and Wetland, a book that was reprinted 3 times. I recently re-edited and had this book published again under the title Wildflowers of the St. Croix Valley. The flowers are arranged by botanical plant families and their distinct habitats.
About my Books
My book writing continued when my uncle gave me a copy of my Swedish grandfather, A.O. Dahlberg’s memoirs, inspiring me to tell the story of his immigrant family homesteading in northwestern Wisconsin in the late 1880’s. In recent years with increasing interest in genealogy by the younger generation I was encouraged to update this book, Swedish Pioneer.
Another book was inspired by the happenstance of finding a wonderful cache of old photos and letters from my mother’s side of the family. She was of French Canadian heritage and had a Chippewa Indian grandmother. This story, Brunet Falls on the Chippewa, goes back to the days of fur trading and logging along the Chippewa River in Wisconsin. I am currently working on a fourth book about some of the extraordinary Indian leaders of Chippewa history.
