What is the latest version of Nav Clock?

Version 2.05 for iPhone™, iPad™, and iPod™ touch is the latest version of Nav Clock on the App Store.  Tap on the “info” button and select Technical Support. The version number is displayed at the bottom of the options.

Why does Nav Clock show weather for a city far away from my location?

Portrait orientation displays the Time Zone name.

Landscape orientation displays the Weather Station name being used.

Why doesn’t Nav Clock use a weather station (airport) that I know is closer to my location?

  1. 1.If you have set Use Location Service OFF and you have driven or flown some distance, you will need to turn

Use Location Services back ON within the App to determine your new location or enter your new location

manually.  This is usually only for devices w/o a GPS.

  1. 2.The nearest airport to your location may not be in the NOAA airport database that the App uses or the nearest

airport to your location may not reporting weather at present due to technical difficulties with their equipment.

In either of these case, please Contact Us and we’ll help resolve the question for you.

Why isn’t the time accurate?

How do I manually enter my Latitude and Longitude?

  1. 1.The Latitude/Longitude you see when you first bring up the settings are just example place holders.

  2. 2.Find your own Latitude/Longitude in Decimal Degrees.  Owners have suggested that using Google Earth is the easiest way.  In Google Earth’s Preferences, set Show Lat/Long to Decimal Degrees.  Then point to your location and read the coordinates from the bottom of the screen.

Or, here’s a web site we like:   http://www.satsig.net/maps/lat-long-finder.htm

  1. 3.Enter your own Latitude/Longitude pressing the Done on the keyboard key after each.

  2. 4.Turn OFF “Use Location Services.”  This only disables Location Services for Nav Clock.

Why don’t the geographic coordinates update and instead just show “…”?

iPad® Wi-Fi and iPod® touch can only determine their location using Wi-Fi by accessing major public or commercial Wi-Fi hot spots and not just your home or office Wi-Fi.  For example, if the Maps App cannot determine your location, Nav Clock will not be able to either.  See “How do I find Latitude and Longitude to enter manually.

Why did the weather “Fail to Update”?

1. See “Why don’t the geographic coordinates update and instead just show …?”  Nav Clock must know a location before it can get the current weather report.

2. Using Wi-Fi only:  Many Wi-Fi hot-spots require that you log onto the site page before you can actually use the Internet.  It may appear that Nav Clock can use the Internet but it really can’t.  A good test is to use Safari to be sure you can access a few web pages.

Why is the location accuracy only in thousands of feet?

When the iPhone first determines your location it uses cell towers or Wi-Fi hot spots (iPod touch only uses Wi-Fi hot spots) which are not very accurate - however they are accurate enough for Nav Clock to get the weather in your vicinity.  Only the iPhone 3G/3GS have a GPS and as it acquires or “sees” more satellites the accuracy will improve greatly - this may take a minute or so.  The accuracy of the GPS changes based upon your movements as buildings, trees, and sky conditions all have an influence on how many satellites the iPhone can “see”.

What do the abbreviations mean?

AMSL  Above Mean Sea Level

H         The horizontal accuracy of the geographic coordinates as reported by the iPhone’s Location Services

in. Hg  Inches of Mercury

km       Kilometer

kph      Kilometers per hour

mb       Millibars

mph     Miles per hour

m/s      Meters per second

V         The vertical accuracy of the Elevation Above Mean Sea level as reported by the iPhone’s Location Services

Why does the elevation show “...”?

Elevation AMSL requires a GPS and therefore is only available and enabled on the iPhone 3G/3GS.  Your iPhone must “see” several satellites in order to determine your elevation.  The elevation will display “...” until the iPhone has determined your elevation.  As the iPhone “sees” more satellites the accuracy will improve greatly - this may take a minute or so.  The accuracy of the GPS changes based upon your movements as buildings, trees, and sky conditions all have an influence on how many satellites the iPhone can “see”.  For best results you may need to be outside.

Why are some settings disabled?

Show Elevation AMSL requires a GPS and is therefore only enabled on iPhone 3G/3GS.

Show Elevation AMSL and Show Accuracy are disabled when Use Location Services is turned OFF because the iPhone OS Location Services will not be providing that information.

Why is Celsius in tenths of degrees always nn.0?

This feature works best for Fahrenheit.  The aviation METARs Nav Clock uses report temperature and dew point in Celsius as whole numbers, so only the Feels Like temperature will display something other than nn.0 C.

What is the Feels Like temperature?

Nav Clock clock calculates the Wind Chill or the Heat Index based upon temperature, wind speed, and the humidity.

Why does the pressure show “...” after the pressure value?

Nav Clock will display the barometric pressure trending states of steady (), rising (), falling (), rapidly rising (↑↑), rapidly falling (↓↓), undetermined (...).  In order to determine the barometric pressure trend, several preceding pressure values need to be saved and compared.  While pressure data points are being saved, “...” is displayed until the pressure trending state can be determined, or, if its been more than 12 hours since the last time Nav Clock was run.  The more often you run Nav Clock, the more accurate the trending.

Where does Nav Clock get the electronic weather reports?

Nav Clock uses aviation METARs for airports from around the world from NOAA’s National Weather Service (NWS).  Nav Clock checks for updated weather reports about every 15 minutes for the nearest airport to your location.  These weather reports may be out of date - DO NOT USE FOR FLIGHT PLANNING PURPOSES.

What is the circular icon with an arrow point in the lower-left corner?

The Refresh button immediately refreshes the weather data.  Weather data is updated about every 15 minutes.  Use this button if you may have been out of cellular or Wi-Fi coverage and want to see if the weather has been updated.

Why does the Nav Clock screen go dark so fast?

Your Settings>General>Auto-Lock is set to “Auto-Lock” in a short period of time.  Slide the Nav Clock setting for Disable Auto-Lock to ON to prevent your device from sleeping while Nav Clock is running.  When you quit Nav Clock, the iPhone will again use the setting you have established for Disable Auto-Lock.

Why doesn’t Nav Clock show my city in the Time Zone line?

Nav Clock displays the time zone city from your device set at Settings>General>Date & Time.  If “Set Automatically” is ON, turn it OFF.  You will then be able to enter a city for your time zone.  If you start by entering your country, time zone may list several cities for you to choose from.

How can I view the iPhone status bar to check status of the battery?

Just touch anywhere on the Nav Clock screen and the status bar will appear for a few seconds.
